李昆霖和 Maniaval Andre 的認識是在2006年的一天夜晚，昆霖和朋友經過正在辦畫展的法國餐廳「綠色法藍絲」，就進去看展。Maniaval Andre 是個中文很好的法國人，也是這家餐廳的老闆，那天他主動跑去找昆霖他們聊天。
那一夜，他們聊得很開心。
李昆霖的教學畫室「美術魔法箱」離 Andre 的餐廳很近，也因此，有空就會跑去找 Andre 聊天。去找他的時間不一定，有時候是下午，有時候是晚上八、九點的時候和朋友一起。他們幾乎每個星期都會見上幾次面。
Andre 也會跑去李昆霖的畫室跟他聊天，他很喜歡和李昆霖聊天，因為他們喜歡的東西很相近。他說，昆霖是個很單純的人，喜歡跟他分享生活上的事情，因此跟他聊天很輕鬆、愉快。
有一次，李昆霖在「綠色法藍絲」那兒買了一個法國藝術家 Raynald Letertre 的作品。這令他的妻兒感到訝異，因為身為藝術家的他，是很少買畫的。但他將那件作品一直掛家中的牆上。
在李昆霖過世兩星期前，昆霖邀 Andre 到家裡還有他的個人工作室。Andre 很開心，昆霖跟他說，他是第一個看到新作品的人，那也是昆霖最後的系列。
Maniaval Andre 說李昆霖是在他生日當天離開的，這是他收過最糟的生日禮物。直到現在，他時不時便會想起這位好友。
Lee Kuen Lin and Maniaval Andre knew each other in 2006. One night Kuen Lin and his friend went into a French restaurant called "Green France", where had a exhibition.
Andre was French and could speak Chinese really well. He is also the owner of "Green France". On that night, he, Kuen Lin and his friend had a good time.
Lee Kuen Lin’s teaching studio, Magic Box of Art, was near Andre's restaurant. Therefore, Lee Kuen Lin often went to "Green France" and chatted with Andre when he had time. Sometimes he went there in the afternoon and sometimes with friend’s at night. However, they saw each other almost every week.
Andre also went to Kuen Lin's teaching studio. He liked to chat with Lee Kuen Lin, cause they had similar interests. He said that Kuen Lin was a simple person who liked to share things in life with him. So he felt relax and joyful talking with Kuen Lin.
One time, Lee Kuen Lin bought a painting by a French artist called Raynald Letertre from "Green France". That surprised his daughter and wife. Because as an artist, he seldom bought art work. However, he hang the work on the wall at home.
Two weeks before Lee Kuen Lin passed away, he invited Maniaval Andre to his house and personal studio. Andre was pretty happy. Kuen Lin told him that he was the first one who saw his latest works, which was also the final series by Kuen Lin.
Maniaval Andre said that the day Lee Kuen Lin passed away was also his birthday and this was the worst gift he had ever had. Until this day, he still often thinks of this friend
