1998年，李昆霖和好友李維睦共同開了一家名為「木本物質」的木製傢俱店，販賣昆霖與好友兩人特製的手作桌椅。
In 1998, Lee Kuen Lin started a furniture stores called "Woody Substance" with his friend Lee Wei Mu. They sold some woody tables and chairs made by themselves.
李昆霖的桌椅造型別緻，就像藝術品一樣，在那一時期(1997年開始)，做了許多木製傢具，包含他自己家中的桌椅、書櫃及架子。此外，他也用木材與非木材做了許多雕塑作品。
The tables and chairs Kuen Lin made were really unusual, like art works. At that period (since 1997), he made lots of woody furniture, including tables, chairs, bookcases and shelves at his own hous. Besides, he also used wood or non-wood to do his Sculptures.
